Sixth Grade Language Arts Reading: Informational and Literary texts; novels Writing: argumentative, expository, narrative, response to literature focusing on: Analyzing text Citing text Research Study and apply grammar, use and understand vocabulary, speaking and listening skills

Grading/Recovery/Agenda Major Assessments: (tests, major projects, major essays): 50% Minor Assessments (quizzes, minor projects, minor writing assignments, writing process): 30% Class Assignments: (classwork): 15% Homework: 5% Recovery: Tests: Students who score an 79% or less and have completed ALL classwork and homework for the unit have the option to recovery. It is the student’s responsibility to request recovery, complete remediation, and attend retesting session. Students may earn up to 80% on the recovery test/assignment. Projects and essays are not recoverable. Agenda: Students are responsible for writing assignments in their agenda.
What you can do to help your child be successful in language arts: Check parent access and student agenda Encourage elaboration when speaking and writing(“why?’s”) Assist in their writing, but DO NOT WRITE for them.
