Skills and Technique

Skills are the basic features of all activities. Think of skills that make up most team activities Passing Shooting Dribbling Tackling Some activities have specific skills What skill starts the activities of badminton, tennis and table tennis? Serving

Techniques are ways in which a skill is performed. Think about the activity of basketball The skill is passing What techniques of passing are there?

Why is it important to be able to use different techniques? If you can only use one technique of passing the opposition will know what you are going to do. You will also be limited to how far and when you can pass. Increasing the range of techniques helps you to be creative get out of problems make better decisions when performing

Skills are described by considering three stages Preparation Grip ball in two hands Bring ball into chest with hands behind the ball Action Push arms forward Step forwards onto one foot As you let the ball go straighten arms and fingers Recovery

Activity: Basketball Skill: Technique: Shooting Jump Shot Problem I was shooting the ball from too far away from the basket and I missed 9 out of 10 shots. How would you change the technique to solve the shooting problem? I changed to a lay up shot so that I could get closer to the basket for shooting. I scored 7 out of 10.
