Warm Up 10/17 From roughly 50BC to 200AD, the Mediterranean went through period now referred to as the Pax Romana, a period of almost unbroken peace. How could Rome have created such a period of peace? Do your best to explain how an empire could keep its people at peace (both from without and from within)
What makes an Empire Successful? In order to succeed, an empire needs to be good at two things: Conquest Pacification
Conquest: An empire needs to conquer to be an empire. Therefore, they need to have a powerful military. They might have new tactics or strategies no one else has used. They might use new technologies They might be excellent at organization and logistics
Pacification: More importantly, an empire needs to keep its conquered people from revolting. Pacification: to make people peaceful This might be done by: distracting people with sports or parties giving the people motivation for accepting imperial rule encouraging people to embrace the Empire’s culture.
Most Important Factors With your table, decide on the 3 factors you think are the most important. Why are those the most significant parts of Roman Success?
