What Is Mescaline? Mescaline is a hallucinogen that comes from a small cactus called Peyote, which grows in Southern North America. Also known as: Buttons, Cactus, Mesc, and Peyoto. The top of the cactus, known as the “crown”, contains C11H17NO3, Mescaline. Can also be produced synthetically.
How Is The Drug Used? There are several ways that mescaline can be ingested, but the most common way is by cutting the Peyote cactus into disc-shaped slices (hence the name, buttons), which can then be chewed like tobacco. The “buttons” can also be soaked in water to form an intoxicating “tea”. Can also be smoked. The drug has been used by natives in Mexico and in the Southwestern United States for religious practices.
Effects Of Mescaline SHORT-TERM EFFECTS: Mescaline is a hallucinogen, and its effects are similar to LSD. Causes illusions and hallucinations. LONG-TERM EFFECTS: Side effects may include nausea, vomiting, headaches, increased body temperature, increased heart rate. And Probably Most Disturbing: It causes poor coordination, similar to the effect of alcohol as well as muscle weakness.
So, Is It Legal? No! Mescaline is illegal. It is classified as a Schedule One Substance under the Controlled Substances Act, which means it is highly likely to be abused. Therefore, it cannot be used for medical purposes.
