South Australia Development Division Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure Thank you for the Invitation. When asked to give an status report on my office in SA on word best describes the 4 years I have had in the role. Disruptive- It has been a period of significant change. That is probably in part because I came in just after the GFC, but it make me think about that sort of change over my career, and I would like to share that with you as a lead into the major challenges of change we now face.

The environment we are in is Disruptive. Disruptive technology or disruptive innovation ? But is definitely disruptive.

“The Speed of change is exponential. The amount of technological advancement that occurred in the year 2000 occurs every 1 hour and 6 minutes in 2013, and will occur every 30 seconds in 2020.”

I know you cannot read this chart but of the top ten disruptive technologies, the to 6 have some impact on surveyors.

Measurement Technology- Theodolite 1840 - 1930 Open Vernier Theodolite 1930 - 1980 Optical Circle Theodolite 1985 - 1995 Total Station 1995 - 2016 Robotic Total Station I have started this list at 1840, being the settlement of SA was in 1836 1840 - 1930 Open Vernier Theodolite over one hundred years 1930 - 1980 Optical Circle Theodolite 1985 - 1995 Total Station 1995 - 2016 Robotic Total Station
