Volunteer Role Description for: Location: Main contact: Events Volunteer Glasgow Rehoming Centre Supporter Relations Officer / Volunteer Coordinator Purpose of the role: To support the smooth running of Dogs Trust events by working with staff and other volunteers, providing a friendly and helpful experience to our supporters and members of the public. To help us maximise the opportunities to raise money and awareness for Dogs Trust by being knowledgeable about ours aims and objectives. About our events: We hold a number of events to help us raise funds as well as increase awareness of our work. Our flagship events are our Rehoming Centre Open and Fun Days, which take place during the summer months, as well as a Rehoming Centre Christmas Fair. We also hold a number of seasonal events throughout the year and attend local community shows and fairs to fundraise for and promote Dogs Trust. Key tasks: Each event will vary, depending on the location and type of event. However generally Events Volunteers will: Welcome visitors to the event. Talk to members of the public enthusiastically about Dogs Trust to raise awareness about our work. Be aware of the aims and objectives of Dogs Trust. Encourage visitors at the event to take part in the activities on offer, including fundraising games, raffles and dog shows. Assist by running a fundraising activity stand. Help to set up the event by putting up banners, laying out display stands and take down and clear up once finished. Cash handling. Offer appropriate Dogs Trust publications and materials to the public. Answer general queries and direct any rehoming or other specific dog welfare/training questions to an appropriate member of staff. Skills/experience required: Confident when interacting with people. Good communication and listening skills. A commitment to support the work of Dogs Trust and represent Dogs Trust in a positive way. Enthusiastic and outgoing. Ability to work as part of a team. Non-judgemental. Diplomatic and considerate. Good numeracy and experience of handling money, giving change etc. Ability to maintain confidentiality. A willingness to attend all briefings and training sessions related to your role. Ability to follow instructions. Conscientious with a can-do attitude. An interest in dogs and dog welfare. Time commitment: The timing of the events will vary. Many events will take place at weekends; however, we are also looking for volunteers that can help out during weekdays and in the evenings. Volunteer Appointment Process: Volunteer application form. Selection (successful/unsuccessful). References taken. Events Volunteer briefing pack to be completed. Pre-event briefing (in person or remotely). On-the day briefing at the event.

Opportunities to try new things and learn new skills, where appropriate. The opportunity to gain events experience (including, where possible, with the planning side of things). Travel expenses and meals, where appropriate. Wear your Dogs Trust Events Volunteer uniform at our events and ensure you are presentable at all times. Support Dogs Trust procedures and standards by: Being aware of your own health and safety and of that of others. Respecting others and treating people equally in line with our Equal Opportunities Policy. Ensure all activities undertaken in the name of Dogs Trust achieve the charitable aims and objectives and do not bring the organisation into disrepute. Be accountable and accept constructive comments. Maintain confidentiality regarding Dogs Trust activity, the dogs in our care and our team. Meet time commitments and standards agreed, and give reasonable notice when unavailable, so other arrangements can be made. Be a positive representative of Dogs Trust, ensuring you are polite and friendly to all visitors, volunteers and staff at our events. Dogs Trust Dogs Trust is the UK’s largest dog welfare charity. Through our network of 20 rehoming center's across the UK and one in Ireland we care for almost 17,000 abandoned and unwanted dogs a year. No healthy dog is ever destroyed.
