Called to Love Covenant

What is an agreement? Who are agreements made with? List some agreements that are formal (contract) or informal.

Agreement/Covenant: It is negotiated – becomes a legal agreement Something of value is often exchanged The law/courts protect it There are consequences if it is broken (ie. Fines or jail)

Covenant (seen over 280 times in Bible): A sacred agreement between individuals, between an individual and God. A promise freely agreed to There are mutual obligations involved There is usually a sign of commitment Eg. Baptism – water, oil, candle Confirmation – oil,new name Marriage – ring, vows

The Covenant with God A promise between God and humanity Something of value is often exchanged The invitation is for us to enter into personal relationship with God.
