7th Grade World History Final Review Rome to the Renaissance

Rome 1. Who are Romulus and Remus and why are they important to Rome? Legend says they founded Rome. 2. What are the Twelve Tables? Written laws that were important because they made laws public for all citizens to read. Rome

3. What are the Punic Wars? Who were the fought by? A long series of conflicts fought between Rome and Carthage. 4. Who were the Patricians? Patricians were members of the oldest and richest ruling families in Rome who were allowed to hold public office.

5. What does Pax Romana mean? A 200 year period of peace in Rome. 6. Describe the emperor who ruled over Rome during the Pax Romama: Emperor Augustus ruled over the Pax Romana. He is considered to be an adopted son of Julius Caesar.

7. What is a census? A population count. 8. What is a Triumvirate? A group of three people who rule with equal power.

9. Why is Constantine I such an important emperor in Roman history? He was the first Christian, Roman emperor. 10. What were the 3 causes of the fall of Rome: Economic problems Poor leadership Germanic invasions

Africa 12. What good did West Africa base their trade on? 11. What is Mansa Musa famous for doing? Making a pilgrimage to Makkah Giving gold to the poor Building a university in Timbuktu 12. What good did West Africa base their trade on? Gold Africa

The Middle Ages 13. How could Charlemagne’s reign be described? A revival of arts and an emphasis on learning. 14. Why were peasants willing to trade land in the 900’s? They wanted protection from Viking raids. The Middle Ages

15. Define Feudalism: The method of organizing and governing society that includes kings, lords, vassals, and serfs. 16. What was the basis of power under the Feudal System? Land Ownership

19. Why would a soldier not be part of the guild system? 17. What was the goal of the Crusades? To recapture the Holy Lands (Jerusalem). 18. Define guild: The system that controlled trade and organized people who performed the same craft. 19. Why would a soldier not be part of the guild system? Being a soldier is not a craft-type of work.

22. Who is Johannes Guttenberg and how did he changed the world? He invented a printing press to produce books quickly. 23. How did Martin Luther believe Christians would be saved from sins? By having faith in Jesus.

24. Leonardo Di Vinci’s most famous painting is: The Mona Lisa 25. Why did the Reformation of the church begin? The Pope was selling indulgences (people paid money for their sins). 26. What do Martin Luther, Calvinism, and the 95 statements (theses) all have in common? They were all part of the Protestant Reformation.

27. Jesus’ followers believed that his death and resurrection showed: That Christian’s would be forgiven for their sins. 28. Who is Muhammad? A prophet of the Islamic religion. Religions

29. Describe the importance of the 5 pillars of Islam: They describe the five duties all Muslims must fulfill. 30. Define pilgrimage: A religious journey that a person takes to a holy land.
