Be the Change You Want to See In the World -Gandhi The Message or the Messenger, The Fight or the Fighter?

In Their Words I see America through the eyes of a victim. I don’t see any American dream. I see an American nightmare. Malcolm X Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?‘ Martin Luther King Jr. America will Never be destroyed from the outside, If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves. Wrongfully Imprisoned 1. Geronimo Pratt The late Black Panther Party member, Geronimo Pratt, was sentenced in 1970 for allegedly murdering a27-year-old elementary school teacher. Pratt spent 27 years behind bars, and maintained his a innocence throughout the whole time. His sentence was eventually vacated on June 10, 1997, when they found out that the prosecution had concealed evidence that might have exonerated Pratt. 2. Barney Brown Barney Brown was a 15-year old who was convicted of rape and robbery, and sentenced to life in prison.  Thirty-eight years later he was exonerated.  Brown now travels to schools to speak to students about the importance of an education, and to never give up hope. 3. Anthony Graves Anthony Graves was convicted of murder in 1994, and spent 18 years on death row.  In 2010 he was exonerated of the charges when the court found that the prosecution withheld information from the defense and elicited false testimony. Graves was later denied compensation because the words “actual innocence” weren’t used in the ruling. http://angam.ang.univie.ac.at/RoadCult/16thround/covergross.jpg http://newsone.com/1373205/exonerated-black-men-released-from-prison/

A man who stands for nothing will fall for anything. Malcolm X http://alwaysquestionauthority.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/article-front-0715.jpg The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy. Martin Luther King, Jr.   I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character. Martin Luther King, Jr.  I'm for truth, no matter who tells it. I'm for justice, no matter who it's for or against. Malcolm X  A man who stands for nothing will fall for anything. Malcolm X  Be sure you put your feet in the right place, then stand firm. Abraham Lincoln  I love my children and I love my wife with all my heart. And I would die, die gladly, if that would make a better life for them. Medgar Evers

REFLECTION: Be the Change You Want to See in the World As I began this assignment, I really wanted this power point to have a purpose. I thought since we began with the Gettysburg Address and the Civil War, I would continue forward from that point in time to where we are now. I feel it is important for this generation to remember all that was given for what we have today. Then I wanted them to realize that the fight still continues. We have gone from men in white hoods, to men with badges, to lawmakers, and politicians. The question for them, “How much has really changed?” Do we have those liberties that our forefathers so desperately fought for? Are theses “inalienable rights” actually ours? This power point is meant to inspire them to take a deep look at themselves and what their generation can do to continue the fight that began so long ago. Since some of the images and information was very harsh in nature and may have hit home for many of them, I decided to end with Mahatma Gandhi because he was well known for being peaceful. It is important for this generation to understand that violence begets violence, but PEACE wins out. There is a way to get a goal accomplished, but hate added onto hate isn’t the way. My goal from this point would be for students to chose a set of information and really research what happened, look at how society handled their part, analyze it’s effectiveness, and explain how they would have handled this today (would they change anything that was done in the past, why or why not?). There are so many different situations that they could choose from that I would be very excited to see what they came up with. Ultimately technology would be used to present their information.
