Summary A well planned preparation for the review during pre-licensing phase is a key factor to a successful review. Plan for the review should be prepared and resources assured before the review. The review should be guided as detailed as possible. Completeness review before the detailed review phase outlines the scope of the safety case and identifies the shortcomings in it. Regulations that are up to date are of importance for this kind of new nuclear waste disposal concept. Mutual understanding on the regulatory guidance are essential for avoidance of any misunderstandings between the regulator and the license applicant. The review process revealed that more thorough discussions between the regulator and the license applicant before the review would have been needed. Especially more thorough discussions concerning the structure of the documentation and the level of details would have simplified and facilitated the review process. An active communication with the license applicant should continue during the review phase.
