A Quick How To Emily P. Laurey, LMSW January Faculty Meeting Mandated Reporting A Quick How To Emily P. Laurey, LMSW January Faculty Meeting

How and Where? Any concerns for suspected child abuse/maltreatment should be reported immediately “Reasonable cause” to suspect while in your “professional capacity” School Officials are Mandated Reporters The report will need to be made with these identified staff members: Building Principal, Superintendent, School Counselor, School Nurse, School Psychologist, and School Social Worker Reasonable cause means credible suspicion , once we suspect or should suspect that a child has been or will be abused or maltreated, we need to call. There needs to be a negative impact on the child, for example a child is struck with an object but no mark is left, could potentially not be accepted. However, always call! Let them decide and just document their decision. You can always speak with a supervisor. Abuse-inflicts or allows to be inflicted , physical injury, disfigurement, death, any sex offense, excessive corporal punishment Neglect-inadequate food, clothing, shelter, medical, supervision, with the means to do so Minimum degree of care-not your parenting standards or expectations

How and Where You will need to complete a written report “2221” which can be located online at New York State Office of Children and Family Services and then mailed to our local district Mandated Phone Number-1800-635-1522 Some info to have Names of those living in the household DOB’s Address/Phone Number Injuries or Risk of Harm to Child Child’s current whereabouts Your contact information Small box to check-you would like a copy of the findings Any previous concerns/injuries noted

What Happens Next You must notify your building administrator if such report is made. This would include a face to face contact or phone call after hours to Dr. Crankshaw’s cell phone Copies of the paperwork should be housed with the building secretary Inform the parent or legal guardian? Using your best judgment

What Happens Next CPS must: Assess safety within 24 hours Contact the source of the report Make a home visit and see all parties within 7 days Contact school and any other service providers for collateral information Attendance/tardy, parent supportive, additional concerns Make a determination of “unfounded” or “indicated” and recommend services as necessary
