Presentation transcript:

Break it Down Taking apart the big picture one detail at a time. What do these details mean? As we analyze, speculate, interpret, and respond to what we see, we can develop an educated stance or opinion about our subject. Analysis is digging beneath the surface.

Process Find details Ask questions about the details/evidence What comments or conclusions can you draw about the meaning of the details?

Details/Evidence and Commentary You cannot provide a detail without commentary! Evidence/details never speak for themselves. Commentary: This is your explanation of the detail/evidence and how it proves your overall argument. When we identify details/evidence, we use these details to develop an educated opinion. This is all part of the process of analysis.

Questions Why are the cans all the same flavor? Why are the representations realistic? Why are the paintings displayed as a group? How does the painting make you feel? What is Warhol trying to say about American culture through his choice of color, size, item to capture, number of items?

Questions What is Warhol trying to say about American culture through his choice of color, size, item to capture, number of items? How do American Artists imagine the world around them? How do American Artists express themselves? How do American Artists help us understand our sense of self and society? What observations about America can you make based on these 2 images? What connections between the two can you make?
