Warmup 3.7 It’s 1849, and you’re headed West along the Oregon Trail. Describe the safety features of your state-of-the- art covered wagon. Watch out for dysentery!

Writing the body Use your outline as a flexible guide Build your essay around points you want to make (i.e., don't let your sources organize your paper) Integrate your sources into your discussion Summarize, analyze, explain, and evaluate published work rather than merely reporting it Move up and down the "ladder of abstraction" from generalization to varying levels of detail back to generalization

Use your outline as a flexible guide Just because you wrote your outline last week does not mean you have to stick to it 100% If something works better in a different order, or you need to change some things out due to available research that is fine.

Build your essay around points you want to make You are writing a paper using research to back up the points you are trying to make. The research is in addition to your argument, not the other way around.

Integrate your sources into your discussion This is what seperates the C research papers from the A’s. Watch this movie clip… Does it make sense now?

Ladder of Abstraction Start your paragraph with generalization, get specific, back to general. Example Bananas are good. According to the Food and Drug Administration Bananas provide you with an average of over 400mg of potassium. As you can see, banannas are not only good tasting, but also good for you.
