Video over argumentative essays Why not to…… Activator!

Welcome to Tuesday! I wanted to share one of my favorite quotes learned from my college professor, " Don't raise your voice, improve your argument" So, after seeing our activator, going over our standards, and listening to that quote, what do yall predict that this week and this lesson will be about?? Note time!

So, lets go over the steps on writing and establishing your argument. Step 1: Take a stand on the topic. a) Read the topic and choose a side of the issue. b) Write your opinion as a sentence. c) This sentence will become your thesis. Sample Topic: Topic: Should animals be used for scientific and medical research? Your Opinion (Thesis): Animals should be used for scientific and medical research.

Step 2: Brainstorm reasons that support your opinion (the thesis). a. Choose the best 2-3 reasons. b. Write each of these reasons as a topic sentence by stating your opinion and one reason for your opinion. Do this step for each topic sentence. Sample Thesis: Animals should be used for scientific and medical research. Sample Reasons: 1. It leads to cures for deadly diseases. 2. It determines product safety of medicines for human and animal use. 3. It has saved and will save human lives. Sample Topic Sentence: One reason why using animals for medical and scientific research is a good idea is that it leads to cures for deadly diseases.

Step 3: Write down each topic sentence. a. Brainstorm supporting ideas for each topic sentence b. Be sure to include specific examples, facts, and details for each supporting idea.

Step 4: Write your 4-5-paragraph essay by using the ideas from your brainstorming activity as your guide. Now that we have went through one by me, lets try to work on one together....what argument do we want to take?!

TOTD-Write down any questions you still have about argumentative essays! I will look over these and try to answer them tomorrow! Closing
