The poem we will read and analyze today refers to these 4 kinds of people. Draw these 4 Circle Maps on one sheet of paper and quickly brainstorm everything thing you know about each one.

Read this poem. When I Read I’m a runner, a racer, I’ve got a lot of speed. I can spring from here to there with time to spare, But when I read then I’m a diver! I plunge right in and until the story’s over I don’t come up for air. Then too I’m an explorer, a tracker and a rover and I always find something I didn’t know was there. Analyzing Each Part of the Poem With your small group, construct a Brace Map to break the poem into meaningful stanzas (parts). Add a Frame of Reference. What do you know about this poet? “Lillian Morrison’s contributions to the world of children’s literature and librarianship were many,” said Ellen Ruffin, curator of the de Grummond Collection at University of Southern Mississippi, where Morrison’s papers are housed. “She spent more than forty years as a librarian and wrote children’s poetry books, an unusual combination of both a writer and a practitioner—proof positive of her commitment to children and books.”
