What is PRIDE Period?

I can explain the purpose of the PRIDE Period Learning Targets I can explain the purpose of the PRIDE Period I can identify activities to complete during the PRIDE Period I can summarize the procedures to follow during PRIDE Period

Everyone Learns differently: PRIDE Period builds in time for everyone to meet their needs

PRIDE Period: How do we make sure all WHS students get what they need to be successful? For our purposes: Equality means everyone gets the same, Equity means everyone gets what they need. We want to make sure all WHS students have access to what they need to be successful!

There are 2 ways we are going to do that during the PRIDE Period: The Purpose of the PRIDE Period is to give WHS students Access to the resources they need to be successful There are 2 ways we are going to do that during the PRIDE Period: Give students Flexibility to pursue interest and goals Give students time to Focus on important skills We couldn’t possibly offer all the classes students want or need. Rather, we will structure some time during the school day to provide students the flexibility to pursue their goals and the focus to narrow in on the necessary skills needed to meet those goals.

Flexibility All students on PRIDE Period at the same time means all students have access to all of their subjects, all of their teachers, during the school day. Technology allows unlimited access to enrichment opportunities Increased learning time for those who need it, more choices for those who don’t

Flexibility Examples Get help from a teacher Make up assignments and tests Khan Academy Club meetings & events Credit Recovery Explore work and college opportunities

Focus Teachers serve as mentors- progress monitoring achievement and attendance Individualized instruction and interventions in areas of need Test Prep available to all students, all 4 years (Khan Academy)

Teachers meet with students to check PowerSchool, plan for improvement Focus Examples Teachers meet with students to check PowerSchool, plan for improvement Use of free, online resources for supplemental learning activities Khan Academy = College Entrance Exam support for all students Intentional, targeted supports during PRIDE time -During PRIDE Period teachers will be “checking in” with students to review grades, assignment completion, and attendance -Students can go to their other teacher’s classes to get help -Khan Academy will take your test scores on the PSAT or SAT and create modules to sharpen your skills to help improve your scores the next time you take it.

Check for understanding Pairs-Share-Report: With the person sitting next to you, discuss the following 3 questions and be ready to respond when called What is the purpose of the PRIDE Period? How does the PRIDE Period provide flexibility for WHS Students? How does the PRIDE Period provide focus for WHS students?
