What Are Emotions? The way you manage your emotions affects your mental and emotional health. ______________________________________________________________________________________ Emotions are not always easy to recognize. You might not always know exactly what you’re feeling and why. If you can identify your emotions, however, you can think of healthful strategies for dealing with them.

Types of Emotions Happiness Sadness Anger Grief Fear ____________ People often feel happy when their needs are met. People who feel happy smile and have plenty of energy. They wish to share this emotion with others. Sadness: Sad feelings don’t usually last very long in people who are mentally and emotionally healthy. Anger: The key to dealing with anger is to deal with it in a healthy way so that it does not last. Fear: Fear can make it difficult for a person to take an active part in life. It is important to deal with fear in a healthy way so that it does not last long. Grief: Grief is a normal, healthy reaction to loss. You can feel grief after the death of a loved one or a the end of a relationship. There are five stages in the grieving process.
