What is phonics? Phonics is a method for teaching reading and writing the English language. The aim is to increase your child's ability to hear, identify, and manipulate letters and sounds. We will watch a training video by Ruth Miskin available on ‘You tube’ Parent Information: Understanding phonics. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gWh0HSDFkUU&list=PLRKcpLXEIYB10GlCiuAh4xiKZ58ixhZJv&index=1

How do we teach phonics? How can you help? Every day Follow Letters and Sounds 3 or 4 new sounds a week and tricky words too. Children will need to be using Phase 2 sounds, before they progress onto Phase 3 Songs, actions, objects, whiteboard work, flash cards, sound mats……… How can you help? Home Learning Sound Book – activity and flash card Tricky and High Frequency Word Flash Card Keyring Blending and Segmenting By letting the child have a go themselves. Internet/computer games: alphablocks, Ruth Miskin, phonics play.co.uk
