The Cross and Repentance Jesus’ Sacrifice Changing our Mind

1. Taking the Cross Personally Matthew 26:36 to Matthew 27:37 Isaiah 52:12 to Isaiah 53:12

sin to be atoned for in such Why does God desire for sin to be atoned for in such a painful way?

What’s the Message?

2 Corinthians 5:14-21 Compelled by love to reply or to act. What’s an appropriate response?

2. Repentance Common word in religion, but what does it truly mean?

Penance Origin Middle English: from Old French, from Latin paenitentia ‘repentance’, from the verb paenitere ‘be sorry’. NOUN 1. Punishment inflicted on oneself as an outward expression of repentance for wrongdoing. 2. A sacrament in which a member of the Church confesses sins to a priest and is given absolution.

Metanoia Meta = Change (like metamorphosis in a caterpillar) Nous = Mind (Nous is the origin of our English word knowledge)

Repentance re-understood Titus 1:15-16 Colossians 3:1-4 2 Corinthians 7:8-11

The Bottom Line… The cross of Christ is very personal for a very specific reason. It is to make us think differently. Repentance is the appropriate response to the cross of Christ. When our mind changes, our actions follow.
