ACTIVE RFID CARD BASED SECURITY SYSTEM Description This is an active cards based RFID reader and writer. Active RFID cards are similar to the passive cards with only difference that active RFID cards have a power source such as battery. Active RFID tags have a transmitter which broadcast signals to the receiver. The circuitry of the active RFID tags is powered through a battery. Active RFID cards are used for high valued goods for which long ranged detection is very essential. In active RFID the reader can read from a range of 100 meters. Active RFID tags are self-energized whereas passive RFID card are energized by reader then transmits data. Hence Passive RFID cards have a range of max. 10cm.

Block diagram

Working Active RFID cards have an internal circuitry which basically includes a RF trans-receiver, a micro-controller, an antenna and a power source which is generally a battery. Active RFID cards always transmit signals. Whenever receiver detects the signal it takes action as required. RFID cards have a tag which is a unique identification number. Every RFID card has a different tag. Active RFID cards have practical application that they can be used in vehicles. When a vehicle approaches an entry gate it will automatically open. This is used where identification is required from a long range.

ADVANTAGES Active RIFD cards are used in medical industry in surgical instruments so that no equipment is left in the body which may cause death or injury. It is also used in security systems to identify vehicles. It is used in smart garages in which doors automatically opens or closes when a correct Active RFID tag is detected. It is also used to tag domestic animals and mostly used by farmers having multiple cattle’s. RFID tags have their own power source and hence they can have sensors attach with them to perform various functions.
