COLLEGE-AND CAREER-READY STANDARDS: STATE RESOURCES SSA Conference June 2012

Timeline Notes: Began in June 2011 – Phase I Overview of Standards Began in October 2012 – Phase II – Webinars & Development of guides to assist math teachers in studying the standards We are now in Phase II…Phase III will begin in August with specialized assistance to LEAs with needs.

Introduce them to the resources we have developed..

ALABAMA COLLEGE- & CAREER-READY INITIATIVE WEBSITE The red graphic on the Math button is hot-linked to take you to the CCRS website. www.alex.state.al.us/ccrs

PHASE II CCRS MATH TRAINING Has your system’s math leadership team been trained on the Explorations’ Guides? Has your math leadership team trained your system’s teachers? In the November webinar we asked each system to designate a math leadership team that would be responsible for attending the training the then ‘turning the training around’ to the teachers in the system. These “Explorations’ Guides” are a set of resources with activities that provide a process for studying the critical areas, vertical connections, and standards for mathematical practice. Resources are available in Grade Bands K-2, 3-5, 6-8, and High School as well as grade-specific. Once a system has been trained, they receive a password to access all the training materials on the CCRS website.

97 MATH LEADERSHIP TEAMS HAVE BEEN TRAINED Sessions are scheduled for MEGA for teams that have not attended training. Math Leadership Team Training– January , February, & May of 2012. Sessions on Explorations are being offered at MEGA 97 LEA teams have been trained. If your system has not been trained and you would like to set up training, contact me and I’ll be glad to assist. All the AMSTI specialists have been trained on these guides and can assist with the training.

ALABAMA INSIGHT TOOL Searchable database of standards Standards unpacked for evidence of student attainment, teacher vocabulary, knowledge, skills, and understanding 6 custom fields that will be populated by the SDE (AMSTI, ALEX, others) 4 customer fields that districts can populate with local resources

WHO WILL USE THE ALABAMA INSIGHT TOOL? Individual Educators Curriculum Pacing and Mapping Teams Grade-Level Teams School Administrators

DISTRICT TRAINING District Leadership Teams will be trained in July and August on administration of the Alabama Insight Tool. Logistics for the training are being finalized.

SDE SUPPORT FOR IMPLEMENTATION System CCRS Implementation Teams Regional Support Teams Quarterly meetings to assess progress with implementation Each system will be asked to develop a CCRS Implementation Team. These team members will have the opportunity to network with other districts about CCRS implementation and receive updates on resources, training, etc. four times during the 2012-2013 school year. These network meetings will be held in each of the 11 regional inservice center areas. Team members should be prepared to communicate or turnaround information. Team Members may include central office representatives for math, ELA and other content areas such as social studies, science, etc. and school level representation from the principal and teachers from the same content areas mentioned previously. Regional Support Teams have been developed by the SDE to assist the districts with assessing where they are with implementation and what support they need. The Regional Support Teams will plan with the LEAs for two purposes: 1) to facilitate transition to the CCRS, and 2) to provide differentiated support based on district and school needs…as determined by the data. Quarterly meetings will be held to assess where the systems are with implementation and what support they need
