Figure 1 Inhibition of RNAi by Viral Suppressors of RNA Interference Qiu et al. (2017) propose that infection of cells by WT viruses results in the production of viral suppressors of RNA interference (VSR) proteins—A3, in the case of HEV71—that bind the dsRNA replication intermediate and block access by Dicer. In contrast, in the absence of the VSR, Dicer is able to access the dsRNA intermediate and cleave the dsRNA from the termini to generate vsiRNAs that inhibit viral replication.
