IRAN: Recent Developments in Standardization Education and Research N. Barzegari, Prof. R. Sotudeh-Gharebagh, M. Jalili, and F. Mazinani Iranian National Standard Organization, ISIRI, I.R. of IRAN, http://www.isiri.org Introduction To investigate the education and research on standardization in Iran, papers, projects, workshops held by ISO organization in different countries and international experiences are used with the focus on formal education. ISIRI Education is also extended to its members, state organizations and private institutions through 28 private institutions and 840 individual experts who are asserting ISIRI to promote standardization education. Educational System Primary and Secondary Education Ministry of Education. (MOE) Primary Education cycle First secondary education cycle Second secondary education cycle Higher education Two ministries are responsible for higher education (Ministry of Science, Research and Technology (MSRT) and Ministry of Health and Medical Education (MHME)) B.Sc, M.Sc and Ph.D To establish education office at SRI with following tasks To conduct joint projects with universities with approach of standardization (25 projects) To establish M.Sc on standardization (pending to approve by MSRT) To establish PhD by research program: 2) To incorporate curricula on standardization Law (An optional 2 credits Course– Approved) Engineering (An optional 2 -3credits Course– Approved) Humanities and basic science s(Under development) 3) To strengthen the relationship among ISIRI, Universities, Research Institutes and Centers of Excellence To conduct joint training programs, seminars, conferences (20 agreements) To increase the participation of professors in development of national and international standards. To issue Official Certificates for Experts on Standardization (OCES) to full professors (22 in 2012 and 65 in 2013) To establish standardization chair in leading universities (Recently approved by SRI board of Trustees) To conduct standard development and standardization course with the participation of 100 university professors. National Mirror committee (NMC) Number of participants NMC / ISO (Chair) 39 NMC / ISO (Member) 643 NMC / Codex (Chair) 12 NMC / Codex (Member) 67 NMC / IEC (Chair) 15 NMC / IEC (Member) 54 Total 830 Standardization Education ISIRI-DOE-MSRT Joint program for enhancing national education and research on standardization with following objectives: To address standardization in universities and schools (developing, delivering, and promoting standards education curricula) To support master and PhD theses leading to improve the local and international standards To invite leading faculty members to join to SRI as adjunct professors Standard Research Institute (SRI) http://www.standard.ac.ir SRI, affiliated to ISIRI and accredited by MSRT (~ 80 faculty members) aiming: To carry out standardization research and development To fill the gap between fundamental-applied researches and marketable products or services through converting scientific findings to standards To strengthen the relationship between ISIRI and University Research To empower the industrial and service sectors to meet the local and international standards To enhance the customer confidence and global competitiveness of the country Standardization issues - Schools Conclusion ISIRI has a master plan and an implementation plan for promoting education and research on standardization in IRAN in the frame of SRI and will continue to improve the current programs while developing new and promising programs.
