Policy VS Philosophy Basics of LD LD Allows debaters to explore the moral and societal implications of actions

Basics of LD LD is value centered debate, meaning that both debaters will choose universally valuable topics to consider as the core of the case The value is the ultimate goal of the round.

Basics of LD Burdens Both sides will have seperate burdens in the debate. The AFF has the burden to prove the resolution true, the NEG has the burden of clash.

Basics of LD LD Round Structure 6- Aff Constructive; Read the aff case 3- Neg Cross Examination; Cross examine the affirmative debater 7- Neg Constructive; Read the neg case, and offer attacks against the affirmative 3- Aff Cross Examination; Cross examine the negative debater 4- 1st Aff Rebuttal; defend the affirmative case, offer attacks against the negative 6- Negative Rebuttal; Extend attacks, defend the negative, offer voters 3- 2nd Aff Rebuttal; Defend affirmative, offer voters

Basics of LD Case Construction Value- Something that is universally valuable, or holds inherent value EX. Life, Freedom, Quality of Life, Liberty Etc. Criterion- The method for achieving the value, or lens through which we are viewing the debate round, tends to be philosophical theory based Ex. Social Contract, Utilitarianism Etc.

Claim- What you are trying to prove true Basics of LD Case Construction Contentions- Support the claims you make in the Value Criterion Framework Claim- What you are trying to prove true Warrant- The proof of your claim, can be empirical, evidence, or logic based Impact- Why this claim matters to us, can impact the round, or make impact outside the round. Ideally the impact ties back into the Value Criterion Framework

Basics of LD Argumentation Framework level argumentation; argumentation against the Value and the Criterion Contention level argumentation; argumentation against the contentions and their impacts Overview- argumentation against the thesis of a case Turns- argumentation attempting to turn an impact against the side that presented it.
