RAG LO To assess your Understanding of the 4 calculations. 1-Jan-19 Reflect, Assess, Explain, Communicate 1-Jan-19

In today’s lesson you will be reflecting upon what you have learnt in the last few maths lessons. You will also be trying ‘Boxing Up’ which is a way of problem solving. You are allowed to ask each other and the teacher for help but at the end of the lesson you must be honest about which things you can do independently.

Boxing Up (A Mathematical Essay) Maths Story English Story What is the question asking me? What information do I have? Introduction What Maths will I be using? Main Story Working out / Calculations Answers, checking and presentation. Conclusion

TASK 1 - Music festival Mo is planning a music festival and wants to work out timings for the festival. The festival will start at 8pm and the music must finish by midnight. Work out if all the songs will fit in time. Use the following information to help you; INFORMATION FOR ALL GRADES There will be 40 songs There will be a 30 minute break during the festival It will take 45 minutes to put everything away at the end of the evening A total of 40 minutes will be needed to change between singers. Grade E/D Each song will last for 2 minutes and 30 seconds Grade G/F Each song will last for 2 minutes Grade C Each song will last for 2 minutes and 45 seconds

TASK 2 - Mo needs some posters and flyers to advertise the music extravaganza. He wants to find the cheapest cost. Large Posters £3.77 each £23 for 6 Flyers £16 for 100 £25 for 250 FOR ALL GRADES You will need to write explain mathematically how you know you have found the cheapest prices Grade E Buying 54 large posters and 1,000 flyers Grade D Buying 648 large posters and 850 flyers Grade C 47 individual large posters @ £3.77 and 5,750 flyers in packs of 250.

TASK 3 - Mo wants to buy some backing tracks for in between songs online. Here are the prices from three online stores. 2-Unlimited Tracks Instrumentals with vocals £1.05 each Instrumentals only £1.00 each Sing-along Tracks All tracks the same price at £1.10 each. Buy 10 for the price of 9 Budget Tracks Tracks £1.17 each Buy 20 or more and get a third off the total price. FOR ALL GRADES You must show the difference between the two shops prices. Grade E Mo wants to buy 20 tracks from either 2-unlimited or sing along tracks. Grade D Mo wants to buy 20 tracks from either sing along or budget tracks Grade C Mo wants to buy 32 tracks from either sing along or budget tracks

Grade B extension Mo decides to put up a marquee for his festival. He can choose from a few different designs. Each one takes a different amount of time to put up. Marquee A will take 12 men 3 days to put up Marquee B will take 15 men 5 days to put up Marquee C will take 6 men 4 days to put up 1) Work out how long it will take 3 men to put up each marquee. 2) Mo decides to go for the marquee that is quickest to put up. Each man needs to be paid £37.29 per day. Work out how much Mo will need to pay all the workers.

level Numeracy Skills B C D E F Important Info level Numeracy Skills B I can use proportionality and calculate the result of any proportional change using multiplicative methods C I can multiply decimal numbers. I can divide large whole numbers by two digit whole numbers. D I can add and subtract decimal numbers using the column method. I can multiply two digit numbers by two and three digit numbers. E I can add and subtract three digit whole numbers. I can multiply two digit numbers by a single digit. F I can add two digit whole numbers and I can subtract if I don’t need to borrow.
