Original act is a program for the conservation of threatened and endangered plants and animals in their natural habitat 1988 Amendment: A minimum of 5 years of monitoring of recovered species was required Recovery plans were to go under public scrutiny and be commented on by the federal agencies they would effect Adoption of emergency listings when there is an immediate risk to a species

Agencies responsible for enforcement: US Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA) Fisheries Services In cooperation with federal governments to ensure that their actions don’t jeopardize the protected species
