What’s up? This week we cover the topic of potential Quiz on Friday Potential Energy, Potential Capacitance (Finally, an experiment!) Quiz on Friday Potential EXAMINATION #1 Next Wednesday Chapters 18 & 19 (as far as we get) Start reading Chapter 19 and watch for a WebAssign.

Let’s do a WA problem ….. The drawings show three charges that have the same magnitude but different signs. In all cases the distance d between the charges is the same. The magnitude of the charges is |q|= 4.2 µC, and the distance between them is d = 1 mm. Determine the magnitude of the net force on charge 2 for drawing #c. NOTE: ONLY MAGNITUDE IS REQUESTED, 2.24e+05

“I am free SURVEY” for Problem Solving Session (Voluntary) Monday Tuesday Wed Thurs Friday 8:30-9:30 9:30-10:30 12:30-1:30

Take Advantage OFFICE HOURS Why/What Monday, Wednesday, Friday MAP-418 or directly below in MAP-310 (coffee!) (Copying) 8:00 AM – 10:00 AM Why/What Questions / Problems about Physics Study Questions Just Chat More than one student at a time is fine Appointments possible for 12:30-ish slot

Today We begin Chapter 19 – Electric Potential We will apply energy concepts to charges and collections of charges. We will discuss the potential energy of a charge at a point. We will DEFINE the PE of a charge at a point PER UNIT CHARGE (Like E) and call that POTENTIAL The Units of potential will be called VOLTS We will then do EXPERIMENTS with capacitors Next Wednesday will be the first examination. It will cover everything we do through Next Monday. Begin reading chapter 19 and it would help to begin a review chapter 18 as well.
