Classroom Rules and Procedures

1. What should or shouldn’t you do when taking PowerPoint notes? Listen when the teacher is talking (If you have a question, raise your hand.) Write when the teacher isn’t talking You should not be talking during the ppt presentation (even if you are finished with the slide) No sleeping I give plenty of time between slides for you to write down the information; however if you tend to take more than the allotted time, you should leave some space and you can borrow the written copy to fill in any missing notes. If you tend to finish quickly, use the time to reread and study the notes you have already taken.

2. What items must be brought to class everyday? Periodic checks for notebooks and textbooks will be made. If you do not have yours on that day, you will receive a grade of 0! You must take your textbook with you each day. Textbook 3 ring binder with paper Pencil or pen (blue or black ink only) Calculator Homework when assigned

3. What type of calculator do you need? A basic calculator that adds, subtracts, multiplies and divides. You should be able to find one for less than $2 at most stores. You will not be allowed to use a programmable calculator or cell phone calculator.

4. Where should you be when the tardy bell rings? In your assigned seat, facing the front of the classroom 5. What should you be doing when the tardy bell rings? Working on your Bellringer 6. When should you get out of your desk? Only with permission

7. Where will you find the Bellringer? On the smartboard 8. How is the Bellringer to be completed? If the Bellringer is on the board, the questions/statements must be written down. Since the Bellringer is based on previously taught material, you should answer those questions that you know before looking up answers to questions that you do not know.

9. How will you be graded on the BR?

10. What is not allowed in this classroom? Food, gum, candy, drinks Sleeping Getting out of desk without permission Disrespectful or argumentative comments Profanity Earbuds Talking while the teacher is talking Pushing, shoving, hitting

12. What will happen if rules are not followed? 11.What should you do during intercom announcements or when a visitor enters the room? Listen to the announcements Absolutely NO TALKING 12. What will happen if rules are not followed? Detention for 30 minutes Phone call to parents Office referral

How should work in you notebook be kept? 13. What kind of notebook do you need? A 3-ring binder How should work in you notebook be kept? Chronologically What does this mean? Assignments should be kept in order according to the date of the assignment Notebooks should be kept up-to-date daily.

14. What should be at the top of each assignment? Name Date Period Type of assignment/Page # I will not grade any makeup work or ISSP work that does not have the correct date in the upper right corner. I will not grade work that is not legible.

14. Heading on Papers Name Date Period Assignment

15. What is the procedure for going to the library or science lab? Walk single file and no talking on the way to the library or science lab. When we get to the destination, you wait outside until told to go into either the library or science lab. When going to get textbooks, you must be in alphabetical order.

16. Chemistry and Physical Science are both math based sciences The math will be taught via example problems on the chalkboard. I expect you to write down each example problem on your own paper. Example problems will be followed by in-class practice problems and then by homework problems. You must show your work for all math problems. I expect you to bring your calculator to class everyday.

17. Homework If you are given time to start your homework in class then you should do so. I do not want to hear that you are going to do it later. Copying another student’s homework will result in a zero for both you and the student whose paper you copied. Homework turned in after the tardy bell is considered late.

Journal Entries Every week you are to write a full page summary of what you learned that week. These must have the start date and the final date on them and be turned in on the Monday following the week they covered. EX: Aug 11-14 These are to be written after school, however if there is any additional time at the end of the period you will be able to start on it. I will not accept Journal entries that are written in class on Monday.

22. Can I do an extra assignment for extra credit? NO How can you earn a drop grade? Cooperate Follow classroom rules Consistently do homework

19. Dismissal At the end of class everyone is to remain seated until dismissed by the teacher. The class will not be dismissed until all trash is picked up off the floor. There is to be no pushing, shoving, or running as you leave the room. The same applies to dismissal for lunch.

20. What happens when I have detention? You will be given written notice of the detention which must be signed by a parent in order to stay for detention. If you fail to bring in the signed detention notice, you will receive an office referral which usually means 2 administrative detentions. First detentions are usually 30 minutes from 4:05 to 4:30 on specified days. If you are absent from school on the day of an assigned detention it is your responsibility to show up on the very next day. Automatic office referral for no shows. Be sure to bring written work. Any talking during the 30 minutes and you will have to serve the detention again the next morning. Inappropriate behavior during detention will result in office referral. You must get a hall pass the day before your detention.

21. Where is makeup work kept? Make up work can be found on my website. Any copyright material handed out in class can be found in a folder on the table in front of the teacher’s desk. It is your responsibility to check the website and folder assignments. Previously assigned work is due on the day you return from an absence. When are makeup tests given? Makeup Tests are given on Tuesdays and Thursdays 8:15

When you leave the office you are to have an administrator, counselor, nurse, etc sign the pass. If you are checking out, I have a different check out pass for you to use.
