4- Exceeds Criteria3 Meets Criteria2 Not Yet Meeting1 Unsatisfactory USE OF VALUE The design captures a full value range- with black- white- 6 + different values: Use of value captures strong sense of depth The design captures a full range of value with a dark black to white- only 4-5 values represented-Some sense of depth Some values are represented- but not a full scale (no black darks, or white high lights) Only 2-3 values- Not much depth No value- just contour lines- Limited or no sense of depth COMPOSITION Excellent arrangement of shapes to create visual interest with clear foreground, middle ground, and background. Interesting use of positive and negative shapes Good arrangement of shapes. Some visual interest. Clear foreground, middle-ground, and background. There are a variety of shapes- more thought could go into placement and cropping Not much thought in capturing fore-ground, middle-ground or background Minimal or no thought in finding an interesting composition. No middle, fore, or background relationship Observation Excellent observation of details in original contour line drawing- proportions and relationship of shapes are successful because such close observation Good observation of details in original contour line drawing- Proportions and relationship of shapes represent the subject well Some close observation, but inconsistent- Proportions and relationships of shapes are off Minimal observation or focus on drawing what you see
