OVERVIEW History of Electronic/Computer Music Production What do music producers do? Techniques and Styles of Production Product Mentor Successes & Challenges Conclusion

HISTORY OF COMPUTER MUSIC 1951 - The first computer music recording 1957 - Max Mathews writes MUSIC 1983 – The birth of MIDI 1997 – Virtual Studio Technology (effects) 1999 – The first plug-in instrument

WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO BE A MUSIC PRODUCER? Music Producers must understand every aspect of studio production (Recording, Structure, Mastering) Must have well-rounded knowledge of how voices and instruments produce recordable sound

WHAT DOES A PRODUCER NEED? DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) VST Plug-ins/Effects Samples

PRODUCT My product is a full-length song created using samples I have collected and ones already available in the DAW. Produced this track using the techniques taught to me by my mentor SoundCloud

MENTOR My mentor, Noah Hasty, is an electronic music producer that I have been friends with for quite some time. He is experienced in using FL Studio 10 as well as experienced in the world of synthesizers and plugins. Helped tremendously by showing me production and mastering techniques that have made my songs sound clearer and more professional.

Successes & Challenges - Product was very fun to make and working with my mentor was very enjoyable - No problems with production, everything fit/sounded perfect - Local artist wrote lyrics and used them on my song, and we are making money by selling the song -Research paper was difficult and lengthy
