New Approaches to Self-assembled Electroactive Polymers Exhibiting High Electromechanical Responses Qing Wang, Department of Materials Science and Engineering, The Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA 16802 In poly(vinylidene fluoride)-based ferroelectric polymers, the dimensional change between the molecular conformations in the ferroelectric phase (-phase) and the paraelectric phase (-phase) can induce a large strain (> 10%), which can be controlled by external electric fields.  - phase To improve electromechanical responses in PVDFs, a terpolymer approach has been investigated. We have developed a modular approach to the P(VDF-CTFE-TrFE)s with precisely controlled compositions and tunable physical properties.  - phase Molecular conformation as a function of chemical compositions Composition dependence of the dielectric constants for the terpolymer P(VDF-CTFE-TrFE)s.
