Athens Technical College Achieving the Dream Student Success 2017

Culture of Student Success Athens Technical College

Improve the culture of student success Goal 3: Improve the culture of student success Initiative: Instituted TEAMS and FSSE 1000

First Semester Seminar Dr. Tawana Mattox FSSE 1000

First Semester Seminar (FSSE 1000) Students who are first time in college and those students who have less than 30-credit hours are required to take the First Semester Seminar. The course was first implemented in Fall 2014. The course was designed and developed to help students succeed at college and increase ATC’s retention and graduation rates. At the end of the first academic year, we made significant changes to the curriculum based on student and instructor feedback. We rolled out a redesigned FSSE 1000 in Fall 2015. We have made minor adjustments to the course in the third academic year. Next steps: Reevaluate the course curriculum using course evaluations and data from FSSE instructor focus groups. Make adjustments to the course based on this feedback. Continue to monitor the retention and graduation rates. Continue to strive to develop effective ways to measure FSSE’s impact on student success.

FSSE 1000 Indicators of Goal Attainment According to the ATD Implementation Proposal Narrative (May 15, 2012), measurable yearly goals for FSSE 1000 consisted of An increase in the three-year average rate of student retention by 3% Student graduation (Year 1 to Year 2) by 2% per year for four years Did we reach our goals?
