Expert Group on Quality of Life Indicators Expert Group Report Luxembourg, 3-4 December 2015 Expert Group on Quality of Life Indicators

General issues that are left or underdeveloped Use and interpretation of the framework (and indicators) Revisions (to align with the UNECE quality of employment framework) Updates Luxembourg, 3-4 December 2015 Expert Group on Quality of Life Indicators

More specific issues that are left or underdeveloped Indicator "Employees by flexibility of their working schedule and educational attainment level" (lfso_10fvaredu) From the 2010 EU LFS AHM on the Reconciliation of work and family life Recoded high (Determines own work schedule) –medium (some degree of flexibility, including other)-low (Fixed start and end of a working day or varying working time as decided by the employer) Other main activity Luxembourg, 3-4 December 2015 Expert Group on Quality of Life Indicators

General recommendations The Expert Group had the intention to include a range of productive activities in the indicator set, including household labour and volunteering. However, data paucity means that most of the indicators on productive activities are concerned with formal paid labour. This will be rectified when new data will become available.  Expert Group on Quality of Life Indicators Luxembourg, 3-4 December 2015

More specific issues that are left or underdeveloped Assessed skills (PIAAC) what indicators are proposed for the framework? Percentage of adults scoring at two highest proficiency levels (4 and 5) in literacy Percentage of adults scoring at two highest proficiency levels (4 and 5) in numeracy Percentage of adults scoring at two highest proficiency levels (2 and 3) in problem solving in technology-rich environments Luxembourg, 3-4 December 2015 Expert Group on Quality of Life Indicators

General recommendations In several dimensions a number of issues are still left unaddressed due to the lack of indicators, including victimisation, voice and accountability, corruption, other forms of civic engagement like signing a petition or joining a demonstration, measures of a sense of belonging, community or civic pride.   Luxembourg, 3-4 December 2014 Expert Group on Quality of Life Indicators

Expert Group on Quality of Life Indicators The Time Use Survey (TUS) is a necessary source to study social interactions, but also non-market production and the not negligible transactions between the market and non-market production. It allows estimating the total production and then the GDP in more comprehensive way. It is preferable that the TUS includes also well-being data, in order, among all, to provide better information on affects (part of the overall experience of life assessment). In this context the potential of TUS to fill in the information gap on time spent on: commuting, household production, volunteering, leisure, social interaction, physical exercises etc. valuation of the activities Luxembourg, 3-4 December 2015 Expert Group on Quality of Life Indicators
