Presentation transcript:

Older and Wiser A Public Service Campaign The goal of this PSA campaign is to build a long-term plan to serve the population of the State of Colorado by educating drivers and senior caretakers about when it is time to give up their keys along with providing the resources to help them with this transition in their lives. Older Drivers are disproportionally represented in fatal crashes on Colorado roads. Drivers age 65 years and over represented 65 percent of total drivers involved in a fatal crash, 73 percent of drivers at fault for the fatal crash, and 71 percent of people who sustained fatal injuries because of the crash. This data suggests that we all need to have a plan that includes alternative transportation options as we start to age, starting for some as young as 65. We all need to know what to look for with ourselves and others. The source of this information is the 2017 CDOT Problem Identification Report.

CDOT HWY Safety Grant Grant Amount - $4950. No In Kind Match is needed but this plan does provide an in-kind match when working with Locally FCC licensed Broadcast Radio and TV. https://www.codot.gov/business/grants/safetygrants/safety- minigrants/traffic-safety-initiatives-mini-grants Deadline for applications for 2018 end of May. Project to be complete by the end of September preferably the end of August.

Do you qualify if other City or County Agencies are currently using CDOT Hwy Safety Grants? One Duns Number per CDOT Mini Grant Application If your Agency has a separate Duns Number from the Police Department for example both qualify to apply for grant funding. It appears there may be unused grant funds because of lack of applications. Good Plans are needed to help save lives from traffic accidents on Colorado streets and highways.

Our Plan – Encourage Seniors to Stop Driving and offering a Solution for the needed change. We are educating the Community of the mobility issues that create the problem with Older Drivers, and offer the solution. We want to make it as easy as possible to find the information needed to use public transit and navigate through this change in their lives. We are creating a positive image of the use of public transit to create an upbeat and open response for needed change. We are measuring the results though increased ridership by adults over the age of 65.

Local Media Mix Radio, TV, and Newspaper. The best in-kind match is usually found with FCC licensed Radio and TV Stations.

The advantages of Local Radio and TV Collaborations: They will provide an in-kind match based on the total spent by all Partners.

Western Slope Campaign Example

Denver TV Market - Denver DMA

Local Media Collaboration Examples in the Denver DMA that could save lives Statewide If the Transit Systems that serve these Counties Collaborated: Lake, Morgan, Larimer, Elbert, Phillips, San Miguel, Jefferson, Garfield, Moffat, Eagle, Grand, Park, Lincoln, Kit Carson, Cheyanne, Yuma, Weld, and Douglas. 18 total - Projected Grant funding that could be used exclusively for a Media Buy on TV - $63,000. Ad Match – In-Kind Value $63,000. It does not include the value of news coverage which can’t be guaranteed but it is highly likely. Total value to the CDOT Hwy Safety Program – and the collaboration partners for the $4950 mini- grant collaboration - $126,000. Does not include the value of lives that may be saved.

Thank you Renee St. Andre renee@redhawk.tv 970-799-849 With quick action it is still possible in 2018 to start the conversation in your community. You may increase your ridership. You may change behavior. You may save lives. You will educate and inform someone about a growing problem that has not been addressed and your ability to help solve it. Thank you Renee St. Andre renee@redhawk.tv 970-799-849
