Vocabulary of Colonization and Imperialism The –isms(ish) Vocabulary of Colonization and Imperialism

Colonization Definition: The act or process of establishing a colony or colonies Think about the 13 Colonies!

Imperialism The practice of having power over a nation/region by gaining authority/control over political and economic activities.

Partition(-ing) To divide into parts or shares.

Artificial Boundaries Boundaries or borders that are not formed naturally. Remember that artificial boundaries created in the Ottoman Empire?

Civil War Fight between opposing (opposite) groups within a country in hope to gain control.
