Project Objectives and Outcomes For City arenas: assess the characteristics/features, quality/condition, utilization, functional capabilities, financial efficiency, distribution relative to current and future population, level of provision, and relationship with area arenas. Demand assessment: research leisure trends; local and regional population growth and change predictions; user group registration and other use patterns; facility utilization and patterns; facility wait lists; the opinion of user groups, municipal staff, institutional customers and partners; and the use of area arenas by Peterborough groups.

Project Objectives and Outcomes Determine the number of ice surfaces required to meet current ice and non-ice needs – and establish the preferred provision level. Looking ahead 20 years, project the number of ice surfaces required to meet future needs - use the recommended provision guideline to determine future facility requirements, based on projected population growth and change, as well as leisure trends. Determine and evaluate provision strategies, and select the preferred option (including recommended characteristics/features of new facilities, improvements to existing arenas, potential partners, possible facility configurations and location possibilities).

Consultation Program Meetings with groups as required throughout the project Three meetings with the Arenas, Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee Two meetings with City Council (first set for July 29) Community-wide Forum - to report on and solicit input re: findings, conclusions and emerging recommendations/strategies/options – all current and potential user groups, other interested groups and individual residents to be invited

Progress First meeting with project committee (May 10) Arena tour and collection of specifications, financial information, condition, planned upgrades/repairs, etc. Detailed research and analysis of the utilization of City arenas – initiated Community profile - initiated Population growth and change - initiated

Progress On-line survey – designed and launched User Group survey – designed and launched Media information event (June 12) Preparations for the User Group Forum (June 19) Preparations for this APRAC meeting Trends research – leisure activities, arena facilities - ongoing

Next Steps Meetings with the Pete’s, the Lakers, Trent University, Rocklands Entertainment (the Memorial Centre as a concert venue) Consultation with area municipalities re: their arenas (utilization, plans, potential impact of arena expansion in Peterborough, etc.) Examine all other demand indicators. Begin to analyze research results.

Questions
