What Has The Death Of Christ Accomplished? 1 Corinthians 15:1-4
Forgiveness The removal of sin and its penalty (separation from God) The Lamb of God “takes away our sin” (Jn. 1:29; Heb. 9:26) His blood {viz, His death} brings forgiveness (Eph. 1:7)
Propitiation This is the removal of God’s wrath The death of Christ produces this (Rom. 3:24-26) He “makes propitiation for our sins” (Heb. 2:17) This comes through the love of God (1 Jn. 4:10)
Reconciliation A removal of alienation from God Relative to the previous points (Heb. 2:17) Notice the distinction: us to God; not God to us (Rom. 5:10-11)
Redemption A price paid to deliver someone from captivity (ransom) Clearly stated (Matt. 20:28) Our release/deliverance from: The curse of the law (Gal. 3:13-14) Being guilty (Rom. 5:9) The futility of sin (1 Peter 1:18-19)
Became Our Sacrifice He died that we might live (spiritually, eternally) He died FOR our sins (1 Peter 3:18) He BORE our sins (1 Peter 2:24)
“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends” (Jn. 15:13) “Ye are my friends, if ye do what-soever I command you” (Jn. 15:14)
