ICT PROFILE IN HIGHER EDUCATION Institution: Public: 53 universities, 26 polytechnics Private: 1300 institutions Enrollment: Public: 950,000 and Private: 1,700,000 Participation rate: 12% Telephone density: 30 / 1,000 population Internet providers: 1 / 10,000 population Number of PC: 10 / 1,000 population 2 / 1,000 students JICA - January 31, 2001

PROPOSED PROJECTS 1. DISTANCE EDUCATION: Promoting ICT utilization Objective: Developing capacity and infrastructure in public universities to improve quality, expand access to education, and improve efficiency as well as access to the global information Estimated project cost: $ 40 million 2. HUMAN RESOURCES DEVELOPMENT IN ICT Objective:Strengthen and establish programs in Information Technology, Computer Sciences, and Electrical Engineering in public and private universities Estimated project cost: $ 200 million JICA - January 31, 2001
