The Informative Essay

What is an informative essay? An essay explains, or acquaints the reader with knowledge about the topic. It uses facts and statistical information, cause and effect relationships, or examples.

What is an informative essay? Since informative essays are factual, they are written without emotion and usually written in the third person. That means that the use of the pronoun "I" is not usually found within the essay.

Informative essays also have a distinct format. The main idea (thesis statement) must be narrow enough to be supported within the essay. Each supporting paragraph must have a main supporting idea and all other sentences must relate directly to it. Transition words or phrases are important as they help the flow and reinforce the logic.

Informative essays also have a distinct format. Finally, the conclusion paragraph should originally restate the main idea (thesis) and the main supporting ideas. Finish with the a statement that reinforces your position in a meaningful and memorable way. Never introduce new material in the conclusion.

Developing the introductory paragraph. Growing up in a religious family, I remember going to church every Sunday thinking that everyone in the world did the same thing. It was not until I meet others and noticed how their belief system was different. Learning about monotheistic religions have allowed me to have a different perspective about my own religion… I know much more about how they have originated. Check out thesaurus.com !

Developing the introductory paragraph. What religion do you believe in? There are 3 different types of religions in South West Asia. Different people believe in different religions. There is Christianity, Judaism, and Islam. If you practice Christianity, you believe in God and Jesus. If you practice Judaism, you don’t believe in Jesus or the New Testament, but you do believe in God. Finally, if you practice Islam, you believe in Muhammad. In this essay, you will learn a lot more about these religion and what they believe in. Check out thesaurus.com !

Writing Body Paragraphs Begin with Topic Sentence Give first supporting detail Provide example/facts/explanation Give second supporting detail Provide example/explanation/facts Give third supporting detail

Example of Body Paragraph The first main religion of South West Asia is Christianity. Christianity is a religious movement that grew out of Judaism during the time of roman rule in Palestine. Jesus is the founding figure of Christianity. Jesus was believed to be the son of God. Jesus was born in Bethlehem in 4BC.Jesus grew up with a vast knowledge which attracted many people to him. This worried the Jewish leaders. Jewish leaders also claimed that Jesus was guilty of crimes against Jewish teachings. Then, the Roman ruler saw him as a threat to his authority and sentenced him to death. He was nailed to a cross and left there until he died.

The concluding paragraph Restates the main idea or thesis Summarizes the supporting ideas Ends with a punch!

The concluding paragraph My conclusion is that each religion in South West Asia involves a different way of living. Each religion has different beliefs. Some religions go to church on Sundays, some go to a temple. All three religion celebrate different things and should be respected.
