What does it mean to exist?

The fact or state of living or having objective reality Existence Means The fact or state of living or having objective reality

What is Essence? The basic nature of a thing : the quality or qualities that make a thing what it is

Which one of these comes first?

Existence Precedes Essence A key idea of existentialism—and of the human condition—is that existence precedes essence. The essence of something is its meaning, its intended purpose. A paper cutter is made to cut paper; that is its point. Humans, however, do not have an essence. “Man exists, turns up, appears on the scene, and, only afterwards, defines himself.” – Jean Paul Sartre

What do you know about you? Existentialism What do you know about you?

Why is it important to know we exist? Because it should also cause us to question the existence of everything else.

How do we know anything else exists? We don’t!

Because it leads to the most challenging question of all…… Why is that important?  Because it leads to the most challenging question of all……

Why are you here? What is your purpose? Why do YOU exist? What are you here to do? What does it mean? What will it mean?
