Sparta Business Academy & Gecu Paid Internship Student Information Meeting April 10, 2018

Who may apply? 2019 Seniors 2019 Juniors

How will this affect your class Schedule? Juniors Must Take 4 Core Classes 1 Business Practicum 1 SBA Dual Credit Course/Accounting Release after 6th period *(must take 2 D/C or AP courses) Seniors Must Take 4 Core Classes 1 Business Practicum *Should have already taken and passed D/C Accounting. 2 of 4 courses should be D/C or AP courses. Release after 5th

Business Practicum Course The Business Practicum Course is required of all students that are employed while in high school in a BUSINESS environment. It is not to be confused with the Work Study Course-which is for employed students in all other job areas such as: Food Service, Retail, etc… Students in the Practicum Course will report to class daily and will have daily assignments as in a regular class. Students must maintain a passing grade in this course. Teacher will make site visits to check on students and to speak with student’s supervisor for regular appraisals of the student.

It is Strongly recommended that those students applying… Attend Summer School and take Government Or Speech *You must see your counselor & sign up ASAP.

How to apply: turn in the following to Mrs. Gomez no later than 4 p How to apply: turn in the following to Mrs. Gomez no later than 4 p.m on Thursday 4/10/2018 Updated Resume-please use the format you used when you created the Resume in your POB class and save to a flash drive. Proof of Community Service Hours of 25 each year you have been in SBA. You should be an ACTIVE member of SBA! *80% of Community Service must have been done with the Academy.

Students must complete and submit the Online Application by Monday April 16th There will be an after school session on Monday at 4:15 in Mrs. Gomez’ Room. Students are STRONGLY encouraged to attend the session in order to get help with completing the online application on time. The link to the application will be posted at this session. Students who stay for the session will also be scheduled for a mock interview which will help them “get the job”! Mock Interviews will be held at a later date.

…More Juniors who wish to apply must return a signed parent form indicating that parents approve of your application to GECU and have seen this PowerPoint. Submit this with your resume to Mrs. Gomez by Thursday 4/10/18. Students names will be submitted to counselors to verify that students are current with all credits and will have room in their schedule to be in a paid internship. Students must not be or have ever had LOC. Students with Discipline referrals (depending on level) are not encouraged to apply. Excessive Tardies are not a positive reflection of you and send the message that you are not reliable…Students with excessive tardies are not recommended to apply.

Student and parents must sign indicating that student will have reliable transportation to and from work before applying.

Students must be in Good Standing with SBA and must be an ACTIVE Member in order to apply for paid or non paid internships. Mrs. Gomez will review each applicants information, Campus & SBA records before making final recommendations to GECU.

What happens next after I submit my application? GECU will review your application (about 2 weeks) You will be scheduled for a practice “Mock Interview” on campus. If GECU is interested in you, they will send you an email requesting an interview. After you interview, GECU will notify you within 2 weeks as to whether or not they will offer you a Paid Internship!
