The Study of Geography Using the Five Themes of Geography we do an overview of physical and cultural Geography around the world. We do research and discussion on problems in the world such as political unrest, widespread hunger or disease, environmental challenges and economic issues. Course expectations Course Expectations were posted to my Website on August 10th. Students and parents should read them and return the last page which will distributed on the first day of school. Copies are available to those students who did not have access to a computer or printer. The signature page is due no later than August 21st.

Student Expectations These are eighth grade students and I expect them to be able to self-advocate. By this I mean: They should ask questions if they don’t understand an assignment or email me, They should check their course expectations for answers to their questions, They should ask for extra help, and They should try to resolve their concerns before you step in.

Frequently asked Questions Will you call me as soon as my child doesn’t turn in an assignment?

Probably Not Infinite Campus is updated instantly. Please check student progress at least once a week. I will call with major issues or concerns.

Homework I do not assign homework everyday. I assign a homework assignment a couple times each month. Some are long-term and some are a single night assignment. I do not assign homework over the weekend or during holidays.

Collecting homework Students should put their homework in the basket as they enter the classroom. I will collect these papers once class starts and anything deposited later will be marked late. Please do not bring forgotten work to school. It will be counted as late. Save yourself the work. Students need to learn procedures that will enable THEM to remember to bring work and supplies to school. If you do it for them, they will never learn.

Standard Operating procedure SOP: Any work done in class and not finished can be finished as homework and turned in at the beginning of class the next day without penalty. If they are doing homework every night, this usually means they are not finishing work in class. This does not include tests and quizzes.

Why did my child fail the test? In all honestly, I don’t know. However, there are several possible answers: They didn’t study. They didn’t care. They were absent frequently. In doubt, ask the student.

Why is my child missing assignments? I wish I had an easy answer for this question, but I really don’t. Ask these questions: Do they have too many outside activities? Are they writing assignments down in a planner? Are they getting enough sleep? When in doubt, ask them!

Is there extra credit? I give extra credit within an assignment occasionally. Students may not turn in work for extra credit if they are missing assignments. Extra credit is for those students who have completed all their work but need a little extra challenge or a few more points to bring up their grade. Extra credit is done in addition to the regular work not in place of the regular work.

Student success depends on combined forces Check Infinite Campus frequently. If they are missing assignments now, it will not get better unless there are some consequences now.
