Presentation transcript:

Natural Resources in the Agricultural Industry Objective: Students will be able to explain the impact of water quality on plant, animal, and human life.

Understanding the Impact Water Quality has in Sustaining Life Clean vs. Dirty Water When I say GO, write down 2 similarities and 2 differences between the 2 glasses of water. You may work with your table mate. Any questions? GO! Record results. Which of these 2 water samples would you prefer to drink? Why?

Understanding the Impact Water Quality has in Sustaining Life What information did you use to decide which water to drink? Do you think that information was sufficient? Does “clear” water mean “clean” water? Could the “clean” water actually be “dirtier” than the “dirty” water?

Understanding the Impact Water Quality has in Sustaining Life What's really in our drinking water? Working with your table mate, jot down invisible materials that might be present in our “clean” water sample. What is a contaminant? A contaminant is any undesirable substance or foreign material in a sample.

Understanding the Impact Water Quality has in Sustaining Life What is a pollutant? A pollutant is any substance or material that may cause a harmful effect on human, animal, and plant life. Types of pollutants? Are contaminants & pollutants the same? Why or why not?
