The Incarnation of Christ Christology The Incarnation of Christ

The Prophetic Announcements – Isa. 7:14; Matt. 1:23 – Isa. 9:6,7 – Isa. 11:1-5 – Jer. 23:5-8 The Fulfillment of Prophecy Paul testified that Christ was the fulfillment of these prophecies. (Acts 13:22,23 ) John’s introduction to the person of Christ (John 1:1-14)

John begins with the ________________ of Christ including His activity in creation. He proceeds to explain the __________ of God in sending Christ as evidenced by the testimony of John the Baptist. Verse 14 is critical to our understanding. The Logos (Word, a Messianic title) was incarnated into human flesh and literally ____________ among men. Quite literally God __________ man! This doctrine is not optional. Rejection of the incarnation is a rejection of the _________. (1 John 4:1-3; 2 John 7) The Humanity of Christ Jesus Christ was ________ completely human, ________ a completely human life, and _______ a completely human death. This is evidenced in a number of ways. He called Himself a _______ (John 8:40). Jesus called Himself the Son of Man no less than eighty times in the Gospels. He was consistently called a man. (Acts 2:22; Romans 5:15; 1 Corinthians 15:21; 1 Timothy 2:5) Jesus had a completely human _______. The humanity of Christ is most extensively stated in the brief record of His youth. (Luke 2:41-52) Jesus had a physical _______, but He also had a ________ and ________. (Matt. 26:38; John 12:27; Acts 2:27,31; Mark 2:8; John 13:21; Luke 23;46).

The Purpose for the Incarnation To Reveal the Nature of God – John 1:18 To Fulfill the Promises of God – Rom. 15:8,9 To Take Away Sin – 1 John 3:5 To be a Faithful and Merciful High Priest – Heb. 2:17,18 To Demonstrate Holiness of Life – 1 John 2;6; 1 Pet. 2:21 To Judge and Restore the Universe – 1 Cor. 15;25-28; Rev. 19:16 To Destroy the Works of the Devil – 1 John 3:8 Philippians 2 records what is commonly called the ________ passage. Kenosis is a Greek term meaning “____________.” This is just what Christ did in order to be incarnated into human flesh. (Phil. 2:5-8)
