The Five Classes of Vertebrate
Classifying Animals Part 2 Vertebrates
Amphibians Ch What is an Amphibian? An Amphibian is a vertebrate that is ectothermic and spends its early life in water. The word Amphibian means.
Amphibians have no feathers, scales or hair to protect their skin so, most of them live in wet or damp places to prevent their skin.

Earth’s Early Warning System Amphibians Earth’s Early Warning System

Brief Biology Amphibians are metamorphic. Amphibians rely on water to reproduce. Amphibians are cold-blooded They breathe through their skin when the lack lungs

Chemical Pollution Amphibians absorb oxygen through their skin. Their skin is permeable. They are very sensitive to contaminants. Most reactions to chemicals are obvious.

Air Pollution Being ectothermic, temperature changes can be detrimental. UV Radiation may slow the development and increase the mortality rate of amphibian eggs.
