Warm up for today: Recall/review and be prepared to share when called upon the definition/meaning of supply and demand.

Agriculture=Farming Fertile soil is the best for farming. When rivers flood the flood waters leave behind silt (fertile soil). Terracing land helps increase the amount of arable land The most silt is found at the rivers delta (see video for delta review) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A47ythEcz74

Egypt Nile River Aswan Dam Gifts of the Nile: Agriculture from the silt!! This agriculture helped the Egyptian people have a place to settle and create a civilization.

TYPES OF POLITICAL SYSTEMS Governments can be placed into two categories: Limited and Unlimited Limited Government: Everyone, including all authority figures, must obey laws. Constitutions, statements of rights, or other laws define the limits of those in power so they cannot take advantage of their elected, appointed, or inherited positions. Unlimited Government: Control is placed solely with the ruler and his/her appointees, and there are no limits imposed on his/her authority. The Greeks invented democracy. Pericles was a Greek statesman, almost the “Father of Democracy”. The Greeks invented democracy. He believed that citizens should pay attention to their own life and what is happening in the government!

Economic Activity Levels: Agricultural- the gathering of raw materials Manufacturing- the manufacture of raw materials into products to be used Wholesale- when businesses shop Retail – when consumers (citizens) shop Laborer and worker is the same thing. Goods are_____________________________? Services______________________________? What is an industry? Entrepreneurs want their own business.

Socialism: Socialism is a range of economic and social systems characterized by social ownership and democratic control of the means of production. Simply, the worker controls industry and the government needs to collect high taxes from citizens to pay for benefits for the citizens.

New Concept about Africa: Pan-Africanism-all Africans were united in wanting freedom from colonialism. This was an idea from a political leader from Ghana named Kwame Nkrumah.

New vocabulary: “The Columbian Exchange” was the cultural diffusion (when one culture uses something from another culture) that occurred between the New and Old World.
