Georgia Performance Standard ELA7C1: The student demonstrates understanding and control of the rules of the English language, realizing that usage involves the appropriate application of conventions and grammar in both written and spoken formats. Demonstrates correct usage of comparative and superlative forms of adjectives and adverbs. f. Demonstrates appropriate comma and semicolon usage (compound, complex, and compound-complex sentences, and split dialogue). h. Produces final drafts/presentations that demonstrate accurate spelling and the correct use of punctuation and capitalization.

Identifies events that advance the plot and determines how each event explains past or present action(s) or foreshadows future action(s).

OPENING: JOURNAL Brainstorm in your group: Come up with at least 10 different traits of what would make a good hero. Write them in your sourcebook. Who is someone you admire? Why are they your hero? What qualities do they possess?

CLOSING– SNOWBALL FIGHT! One a sheet of paper, write down two of your reader’s responses that you had while we read “Eleanor Roosevelt.” Make sure to write out the WHOLE sentence from the story and your whole response. QUIETLY stand up and listen for further instructions.
