Vietnam Era Protest Songs and Beyond

Consider: Why do you listen to music? How does music make you feel? Does music serve different roles in your life depending upon your mood, who you are with, or what you are doing? Does music ever cause you to think differently or want to rise up or support some cause or action?

Listen and Annotate I have chosen four iconic protest songs from the era. Consider why I chose what I did for you to listen to and discuss. Are they successful in your opinion? -Fortunate Son by CCR -For What It’s Worth by Buffalo Springfield -The Times They Are A-Changin’ by Bob Dylan -War by Edwin Starr (See the attachment on this Google Classroom Assignment for the lyrics)

Your Protest Song What is a song that stirs you or strikes you in an emotional way? Why? What songs are out there now that can be called protest songs? Are they successful?
