SHOULD MIDDLE SCHOOLS EXPECT CHILDREN TO DO OUT OF SCHOOL HOURS SPORTING ACTIVITIES? BY MORGAN LEE AND AARON SMILJANIC

METHOD TO GATHER OUR INFORMATION, WE SENT OUT QUESTIONNAIRES TO OUR ENGLISH CLASS, OUR FORM CLASS AND HALF OF ANOTHER CLASS. THEY HAD TO FILL IN CONSENT FORMS TO DO THE QUESTIONNAIRE. AFTER WE HAD GATHERED ALL OUR RESULTS, WE GROUPED ALL OUR ANSWERS TOGETHER AND PUT THEM INTO GRAPHS.

QUESTIONNAIRE 1. Do you believe that middle school children should participate in out of school sporting activities? YES NO (PLEASE CIRCLE ONE)   2. Should family commitments take priority over school teams? Please explain your reasons. 3. Should it be the child’s parent’s decision or the teacher’s decision for the child to play school sports on weekends? Please explain reason? 4. If a child does not wish to participate, should they be made to? Please explain your answer

QUESTIONNAIRE CONTINUED   5. Should children get merits for participating on weekends? YES NO (PLEASE CIRCLE ONE) 6. Should the teachers have the right to punish someone for not doing a sport out of school hours (e.g. make them miss a match in school hours)? Please explain. 7. Do you think all matches should be played in school hours? 7b. If yes, please explain why? 7c. If no, please explain objections.

Do you believe that middle school children should participate in out of school sporting activities? AS YOU CAN SEE, MOST PEOPLE IN QUESTION 1 SAID YES, CHILDREN SHOULD DO EXTRA SPORTING ACTIVITIES.

WHAT WOULD YOU SAY?

Should family commitments take priority over school teams? IN GRAPH 2 YOU WILL OBSERVE THAT MOST PEOPLE THINK YES FAMILY COMMITMENTS SHOULD TAKE PRIORITY OVER SPORT. HOWEVER SOME PEOPLE THINK THAT IT SHOULDN’T.

Should it be the child’s parent’s decision or the teacher’s decision for the child to play school sports on weekends?   IN THIS GRAPH, YOU CAN SEE THAT MOST PEOPLE THINK THAT IT SHOULD BE THE CHILD’S PARENT’S DECISION IF THE CHILD SHOULD PLAY SPORT ON THE WEEKEND.

WOULD YOU LET YOUR CHILD PLAY SPORT AT THE WEEKEND OR NOT?

10 18 Should children get merits for participating on weekends? IN THIS PIE CHART YOU CAN SEE THAT MOST PEOPLE THINK YOU SHOULD GET MERITS FOR COMPETING AT WEEKENDS. 10 18

Do you think all matches should be played in school hours? IN THIS GRAPH, YOU WILL OBSERVE THAT MOST PEOPLE THINK THAT SCHOOL SPORT SHOULDN’T BE PLAYED IN SCHOOL HOURS.

IN THE SLIDES BEFORE THIS ONE, YOU WERE PROBABLY WONDERING WHY WE MISSED OUT SOME OF OUR QUESTIONS. THIS IS BECAUSE THE QUESTIONS WE MISSED OUT, WERE ALL ONES WHERE YOU HAVE TO EXPLAIN YOUR ANSWER. IN OTHER WORDS,OPEN QUESTIONS.

Should family commitments take priority over school teams Should family commitments take priority over school teams? Please explain your reasons.   FOR THIS QUESTION,MOST PEOPLE THOUGHT THAT TEACHERS AND PARENTS CAN’T TAKE OVER OUR LIVES.9 PEOPLE SAID THIS AND 6 PEOPLE SAID IT SHOULD BE THE CHILD’S DECISION WHETHER KIDS SHOULD PLAY ON WEEKENDS OR NOT.

Should it be the child’s parent’s decision or the teacher’s decision for the child to play school sports on weekends? Please explain why. IN QUESTION 3, MOST PEOPLE THOUGHT THAT PARENTS SHOULD DECIDE WHETHER KIDS SHOULD PLAY SPORT OR NOT.

If a child does not wish to participate, should they be made to If a child does not wish to participate, should they be made to? Please explain your answer. AS YOU WILL OBSERVE, MOST PEOPLE SAID THAT IT SHOULD BE THE CHILD’S DECISION WHETHER THEY SHOULD PLAY OR NOT. 1 3

WOULD YOU LET YOUR CHILD DECIDE WHETHER THEY PLAY MATCHES OR NOT?

Should the teachers have the right to punish someone for not doing a sport out of school hours (e.g. make them miss a match in school hours)? Please explain.   IN THE GRAPH BELOW, THERE WERE A LOT MORE RANGE OF OPINIONS.AS YOU CAN SEE MOST PEOPLE SAID IT SHOULD BE THE CHILD’S DECISION WHETHER THEY MISS A MATCH OR NOT.

Do you think all matches should be played in school hours? If yes, please explain why? IN THIS QUESTION, MOST PEOPLE THOUGHT THAT SPORT SHOULD NOT BE PLAYED OUT OF SCHOOL HOURS AS IT IS IN THEIR OWN TIME.

DO YOU THINK SPORT SHOULD BE PLAYED IN SCHOOL HOURS OR NOT? AND WHY?

Do you think all matches should be played in school hours? If no, please explain objections. IN THIS QUESTION, THERE WERE ONLY TWO ANSWERS.THESE ARE SHOWN BELOW.MOST PEOPLE SAID THAT PEOPLE SHOULDN’T MISS SCHOOL FOR SPORTS AS YOU LOSE EDUCATION TIME.

MORGAN’S OPINION MY OPINION IS THAT MIDDLE SCHOOL CHILDREN SHOULD NOT HAVE TO COMPETE IN OUT OF SCHOOL HOURS SPORTING ACTIVITIES. I THINK THIS BECAUSE CHILDREN SHOULD MAKE THEIR OWN DECISIONS AND ALSO IF THEY ARE INJURED OR ILL, THEY SHOULD NOT BE FORCED TO.

AARON’S OPINION MY OPINION IS THAT MIDDLE SCHOOL CHILDREN SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PARTICIPATE IN OUT OF SCHOOL HOUR SPORTING ACTIVITIES. I THINK THAT CHILDREN SHOULD HAVE A CHOICE IF THEY DO IT AND NOT UNLESS IT IS IMPORTANT.

THANK YOU FOR WATCHING HOPE YOU ENJOYED IT. BY MORGAN LEE AND AARON SMILJANIC
