Background Extreme sports - also known as lifestyle sports - have roots in 1960s and have been growing fast since the late 1980s. Extreme sports offer the opportunity to shape the path for individuals which like to find out where their limits lie. Lifestyle sports provide more individualized ways of pushing yourself. There is no winning and losing in these sports and there is very little organization into teams or leagues.

… Research by American Sports Data found that new- style sports such as snowboarding, paintballing and artificial wall climbing have increased in popularity while traditional sports decreased. Given the high-adrenaline image, it's unsurprising that male 15 to 24 year-olds are the prime market for extreme sports. In the UK, 23 per cent of 11 to 19 year- olds participated in mountain biking and 27 per cent did skateboarding. Some extreme sports such as BASE jumping include middle aged people too. Extreme sports can also enable people to confront fears.

BASE Jumping Is very extreme activity that includes a parachute to jump from fixed objects, with unopened parachute like skydiving. The short form B.A.S.E. stands for: Building, Antenna, Span, Earth – four categories of objects from which jumpers can jump Examples of Extreme Sports
